
The Meenavam Kaappom Makkal Iyakkam (Save Fishermen People’s Movement) organized a protest on February 4, 2025, in front of the Mudaliarpet Police Station to demand the withdrawal of a false case filed against their activist, Thiru. Selva. The movement, which has been actively fighting for the rights and welfare of fishermen, strongly condemned the police action.
During the protest, Thiru. G. Nehru (alias Kuppusamy), MLA of Urulayanpet Constituency and President of the Puducherry State Humanitarian People’s Service Movement, participated and strongly criticized the police for falsely charging activists who fight for the people’s rights.
Several fishermen’s organization leaders and activists, including Tamilargalam Alagar, B Bold Organization’s Basheer, and leaders from various social movements, joined the protest and delivered speeches condemning the false case.
The protesters urged the government and law enforcement authorities to withdraw the case immediately and ensure that activists working for the welfare of the people are not unfairly targeted. The protest saw a large turnout, reflecting strong public support for Thiru. Selva and the ongoing struggle for fishermen’s rights.
